Securing UEFI Secure Boot and Coreboot with Quantum-Resilient PCR Hash Chains

Core engineering and protocols for Quantum PCRs & Measured Boot.

Measured Boot Mechanics in the Post-Quantum Era

Measured boot relies on hashing each stage of firmware (ROM, UEFI, bootloader, kernel) and extending the result into Platform Configuration Registers: PCR_new = H(PCR_old || measurement). QuantumTPM implements dedicated SHAKE-256 hash engines in silicon, ensuring that boot measurements cannot be spoofed by quantum Grover preimage attacks.

Firmware Sealing and Rollback Protection

Enterprise full-disk encryption keys (such as BitLocker or LUKS) are sealed against PCR states. If an adversary attempts to flash backdoored firmware or inject an older vulnerable kernel, the PCR state diverges, and the QuantumTPM hardware automatically locks the sealed key, halting the boot process.
